Lamanai Maya Temple is located in the Northern District of Orange Walk. Encompassing wetlands, lagoons, lush tropical forests, exotic wildlife, and ancient Maya temples meld with traditional Mestizo culture, Orange Walk makes a unique cultural experience that should not be missed.
An early departure from San Ignacio is required for this two hour scenic drive through Belize’s countryside as we head north toward Orange Walk District. You will be transported in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to the boat dock located on the shores of the New River in Orange Walk Town.
You will arrive in Orange Walk Town where you will board your boat as you embark on an adventure up the New River. Along the New River bank, your guide will highlight an array of diverse flora and fauna such as the spider monkeys, crocodiles, a variety of birds, and so much more.
Lamanai is an archeological site spreading more than two miles, an area believed to have been occupied as early as 100 B.C. As we arrive at the temple site you will get to explore the Mask Temple, the High Temple, the Ball Court, the residential area and the Jaguar Temple. Your guide will give you detailed information on the historic significance of each area, and you will get the opportunity to climb up the High Temple via the original stairway built by the Mayas, and get a spectacular panoramic view of the lagoon and the surrounding jungle.
Your guided tour will be followed by a delicious traditional Belizean Lunch consisting of Rice & Beans, Stewed Chicken, Fried Plantains and Salad. Water and Sodas will be provided.
